Walk on the trashy beach

After a short break down in Hikkaduwa me and my boyfriend were driving back home to Colombo. We decided to take a break and have a walk on the beach. I think this beach was in Induruwa. There was few hotels in sight but the beach was just a mess. Plastic crap laying all over the place. Even though it was in poor condition, I enjoyed our exploration. You can't imagine how many lighters or toothbrushes you can find on the beach!!

Fishing boat

Half a dolphin

In the middle of all that trash, sea turtles come to lay their eggs.

Trash becomes art.
But why? Why so many toothbrushes on the beach?

Proud founder of the 20th toothbrush :)

Next time I'm off to explore new beaches, I shall carry trash bag with me. Surely I will take weird pictures before cleaning job!

Trouble in paradise

Idea for this work came to me while I was working on the previous piece. I wanted to make images of the negative side of paradise island by using beautiful pictures.

Glam, hot, fab

Here is a piece of work that is fully inspired of the Hi! magazine in Sri Lanka. Even though I'm guilty of buying this magazine every now and then, sometimes it drives me nuts :D Page after page pretty people posing at parties.

Light up my garden!

I'm not loaded with money. And even if I would be, I wouldn't go spending it by buying fancy lanterns in my garden. BUT, I really want to spend time there in the evenings. Have BBQ with my friends and drink beer :P That can not be done in the darkness... so I had to come up with my own solution for lighting up the place.
I had plenty of empty water bottles at home. I cut them in different shapes. Poured sand on the bottom and placed candle on top. Voilá! Sannas home made garden lights were ready!

There is just one problem. These small candles, tea lights or what ever they are called, don't last more than 1 hour, max 2. Looking for better ones. Have to say though, candles are very expensive in Sri Lanka!

Set up for BBQ night is ready. No need to eat in darkness.
And by the way, people look so much prettier in candle light :D

Body

Sunday night I just wanted to relax at home. Came up with idea to paint colorful bodies and this is the result.
I think I'm going to make few more of these. Bodies in different positions and colors.

The Amazing Cake Jumper

Valentine's surprise from my boyfriend. Painting set!
I was so impressed for his imagination to get this for me!
Last time I have painted must have been something like 8 years ago,
but I'm happy to start again.

I took the role of an artist right away and started sketching.
Note the glass of red wine!

My first painting "The Amazing Cake Jumper" I made for my housemate Angelina
who claims to be a cake jumper. I haven't seen her perform yet but I hope she is amazing as I imagined.
She is such a silly lady :D

Result of this painting was what I wanted --> happy Angelina

I had honestly zero patience painting this. I just wanted to finish before
Angelina comes back from her weekend trip. So no much attention to details or mixing colors...
And I think abstract art might be better for me when it comes to painting.

No bananas!

Here is few ads I have done at work, mostly for Facebook sharing. I know these are nothing amazing. Simple things done mostly with help of Paint and Power Point. Photoshop is definitely on my "to do -list".
I really do enjoy doing these pictures and coming up with ideas for our drink promotions.

Who can resist cute animals?

This was one idea for our new menu. Didn't end up for print though. Original artist for picture; Banksy.

This I use to promote our quiz night.

This was used on Power Point slide show to promote our New Years party.

Green and Yellow, colors that will nicely pop out.

Black boards

Playing with black boards, at home and work:

This black board is on the wall of my living room.
I wanted to collect some sweet sayings about home in different languages.
I wrote 3 of these and rest is done by lovely people who has visited.

This board and one below I made at work for our Halloween party last October.

Happy Pop Up is my platform for...things

I wanted to start this blog to share the creative side of my life. Sometimes it's work related, but mostly things I come up with on my free time. I like arts and crafts, photography, decorating...

What can be expected is pictures, pictures pictures! Of my little creations and things that inspire me. Things that make me happy.

This is my platform for happy pop ups.
